Non lucrative visa Spain 2026: funds, requirements and the 183-day renewal rule

Non lucrative visa Spain 2026: 400% IPREM, health insurance, consular application, documents and renewal requirements.

Non lucrative visa Spain 2026

The non lucrative visa Spain route allows non-EU nationals to live legally in Spain without carrying out employment or professional activities. It is particularly relevant for applicants with sufficient savings or regular resources who do not need to work in Spain.

How much money is required?

The current rules require the main applicant to show funds equivalent to 400% of IPREM per month for the full permit period. An additional 100% of IPREM per month is required for each accompanying family member. Availability of the funds should also be properly evidenced.

Where do you apply?

The initial non lucrative residence permit is requested through a residence visa at the competent Spanish consular office. The visa application also constitutes the application for the initial residence authorisation. After entering Spain, the holder must obtain the TIE.

Main requirements

Applicants need sufficient financial means, qualifying health insurance, no relevant criminal record, compliance with entry and public-order conditions, and foreign documents that are properly legalised or apostilled and translated when required.

Can you work on a non lucrative visa?

This permit is designed for residence without employment or professional activity. Applicants who intend to continue remote employment, business activity or paid professional services should assess a different immigration route.

Duration and the 183-day rule

The initial authorisation is valid for one year. For renewal, the current Immigration Regulations require continued funds and health insurance and real and effective residence in Spain for more than 183 days during the calendar year. VMG Servicios Jurídicos can review the evidence and consular procedure before filing.
